Nite Sailing - Pewaukee
By Tom Sweitzer - Nite #272

The Nationals have been rescheduled for Feb. 2nd and 3rd. The weather forecast and little available ice make this weekend too iffy.

I checked the ice on Pewaukee this morning (and got to push the 4 wheeler home after the battery went dead) and found it to be worth trying club races. The patches of very rough ice are gone as is the snow.

The heaves are mostly flattened out and don't appear active at all. Definitely bumpy but we'll see. At least the ice shanties aren't a problem. If any one has sailed La Belle or Nagawicka, let me know what they are like. With warm temps predicted for the weekend we should consider starting early to take advantage of the hard ice.

Start on Saturday will be 10:00am. We only need 2  races on Sat. to have our first official season in several years. Time to start looking for those trophies! This weekend Frank Romaine has volunteered to bring the beer. Thanks Frank. If any one is thinking of setting up or sailing on Friday, let me know and I'll get it out to the others. Launching is at The Boiled Frog. See you on the ice.

Nite Sailing - Mille Lacs, MN
By Mike Bloom - Nite #535

The Tonka Nite Sailors, sans Slocum, are heading up to the Brainerd, MN to sail on lake Mille Lacs. We are following the DN's who will be racing the North Americans. The launch site is on the Northwest side of the lake in Garrison, which is about 20 miles East of Brainerd.

Mille Lacs is quite large. The lake is approx. 10 mi. by 10 mi.. The DNers report that conditions are very good, 15 to 18 inches of ice. The ice is said to be black and very smooth. The few snow drifts that remain should be nearly gone by the weekend, thanks to the warm weather.

Anyone who wants to sail is invited!
