Some Good Racing on Lake Geneva

From Tom Sweitzer (#272) 2/13/03:
Club races, as well as the Stuart Cup were held on the west end of Lake Geneva this past weekend. Conditions were very good both from an ice and wind standpoint. One thing you've got to say about Lake Geneva, is when conditions are good, you get a lot of boats. And a lot of different kinds of boats. Not that many race, but lots of activity. I'm talking airplanes, weird ice machines, gawkers, and of course, Chucks. The Nites and DN's sailed the west most course while the Stern Steerers and Skeeters sailed out further to the east. Nite racing didn't start until 1:00pm on Saturday, but 5 three lap races were run and I was still back to Pewaukee by 5:00pm. Very clean. Dave Navin and Tom Sweitzer swapped victories with Ken Wruk and Dick Grota on their heels.

Sunday brought a repeat of conditions, albeit a bit colder. Racing was delayed until 11:30 when 5 more races were run. Navin had to go to San Diego so Sweitzer won 3 races before breaking for lunch. The others kept sailing with Grota winning the last race in a close one with Wruk. Tom Wilfert and Craig Adams showed up by early afternoon for some scrub racing since their club racing was over. If conditions hold this week I recommend the short trip for some good sailing. If you want to race with the Lake Geneva club, plan on spending a little cash to join their club. That's what they do when they come to Pewaukee so it's only fair.

Winter Arrives

From Fred Miller (#371) 2/13/03:
Old man winter finally snowed up at our doors and wiped out iceboating in southeastern Wisconsin this past week.  We are on hold in hopes of a thaw that will allow us to sail.
