2006 Early Season Report

While at the GREAT WESTERN DN CHALLENGE REGATTA at Lake Buffalo in Buffalo, MN on Sunday, December 3, 2006, a red Nite was spotted ripping across the lake between races. The ice was amazingly smooth and very hard thanks to 9 degree temperatures. Lots of Nite guys racing the DN: Harry Allen, Tom Nordlie, Scott Brown, Mike Bloom and Former Nite National Champion Terry Erwin.

Still, I thought you should know: That lone red boat officially christened the opening of the 2006/07 Nite Iceboat season!

Get your Nite out of the barn and get to Buffalo MN. We’ll be there next weekend!

Since there was no sailing planned in our area for this past weekend we decided on a tip from a local Nite sailor from White Bear to travel. We enjoyed 3 great days of sailing on extremely smooth black ice with winds from 5 to 10mph. On Saturday a group of 8 Nites assembled for the first Nite races of the 2006-2007 season. The PIYC was well represented taking the top three spots. Rick Wilfert, sailing Nite 305, finished at the top of the fleet following his second place finish at the 2006 Nite National followed by Nites 350 and 503. The practice racing was great preparation for the upcoming PIYC season and the 2007 Nite Nationals.
