When racing a nite in
heavy air most skippers will carry lead so that their body plus lead will equal
between 250 to 300 lbs. The lead is usually in the form of lead shot which can
be purchased at most sporting goods store in 25 lbs cloth bags. Be sure to wrap
the bags in duct tape because the cloth bags have been known to break open. The
lead is carried in the storage compartment behind the skipper. The lead serves
the purpose of keeping the boat from hiking and also makes the boat a lot more
controllable in heavy air.
